How we came to do this work
dailfra began in Perth in 2011 with a simple aim: studios for live television should be dependable. Fifteen years on, that is still how we judge a job. A studio that looks good but fails on air has not been finished.
Live television leaves little room for second attempts. A fault during a news bulletin or an interview is seen by everyone at once, so the technical side has to be designed for the bad moment as well as the good one. That idea shaped how we started and still shapes how we plan.
We work across the main parts of a studio: the gallery systems, the cameras, the room acoustics, the lighting and the way a programme is run. Treating them together matters, because a lighting change affects camera settings, and a noisy room affects what the gallery can do with the audio.
Our clients are producers, broadcasters and venue managers in Scotland. Some run daily news, others host interviews or occasional live events, and the studios range from compact rooms to full galleries. We adjust the scope accordingly and do not sell more equipment than the work needs.
Documentation is part of every job. Callum writes the handover notes, covering signal flow, settings and fault-finding steps, so that your crew can understand and maintain what we installed. We would rather be asked a good question than be needed for a simple fix.
We are a small team and the people you speak to first are the people who do the work. Fiona plans and manages projects, and the engineers, lighting lead and acoustics consultant take part in the visits that concern them.
What we stand for
Reliability
We design for the moment something goes wrong on air. That means tested signal paths, sensible backups for critical items and fault-finding steps your crew can follow under pressure.
Clarity
Quotations, plans and handover notes are written in plain language. You know what is included, what could change the cost and how your studio is wired before we leave.
Craft
We care about tidy cabling, well-framed shots, controlled rooms and lighting that suits faces. Small details add up to a studio that behaves predictably over years of use.

Start with the broadcast
We ask what goes on air, how often and with how many people before discussing equipment. The programme decides the studio, not the other way round.
Measure before specifying
Rooms are measured and existing systems traced before we recommend anything. Decisions rest on what we find, which avoids paying for treatment or hardware you do not need.
Design the whole chain
Camera, light, sound and gallery are planned together, since each affects the others. A fix in one area should not create a problem in another.
Test and rehearse
Every signal path is tested, and we rehearse with your crew before the first live programme. Problems are better found in rehearsal than during a bulletin.
Document everything
Signal diagrams, settings and fault-finding procedures are handed over in writing. Your team keeps the knowledge rather than depending on us for routine matters.
Stay reachable
After handover we remain available by phone if something behaves unexpectedly. Many small problems are solved in a short call without a visit.
What clients say about working with us
The gallery had grown over the years with no clear record of how anything was connected. dailfra traced it all, fixed the worst risks first and left us a diagram we still use. Our evening programme has run more calmly since.
Graham Sinclair · Venue manager, conference centre studioThe acoustic work made an obvious difference to speech on our interview set. Duncan explained the measurements clearly, and we only treated what needed treating.
Morag Campbell · Executive producer, independent production companyAmy briefed our operators before our first live show and stayed through the rehearsal. The shots were steadier than we expected from a new team.
Ross Henderson · Technical manager, community broadcasterThe quotation was clear about what was included, and the handover notes were genuinely useful. We have solved two faults ourselves using them.
Describe the room, the programmes and the problem, whether it is gallery systems, cameras, acoustics, lighting, workflow or an audit. We will reply with a suggested next step.
