FAQ

Answers to the questions producers and venue managers ask us most often before a studio project begins.

Questions we are often asked

These answers cover how projects start, what we install and how we hand over. If your question is not here, write to us through the contact page and we will reply directly.

What kinds of studio do you work on?

We work on live television studios and galleries in Scotland, mostly for news programmes, interviews and live shows. That includes purpose-built studios, converted rooms and venues that need a temporary or semi-permanent broadcast setup. Size matters less than how the room will be used, so we start by asking what goes on air and how often.

Can you work with equipment we already own?

Yes. Many projects reuse cameras, mixers or monitoring that still serve well. We check what you have, note where it fits the planned signal path and where it does not, and say plainly what is worth keeping. A technical audit is a good first step if you are unsure about the condition of an existing studio.

What does a technical audit involve?

An engineer visits the studio and reviews cabling, power distribution, signal paths and room layout. You receive a written report listing risks and faults, followed by a prioritised action list so you can decide what to fix first. The audit does not commit you to any further work with us.

Do you train our camera operators?

Camera setup and operation includes briefing your operators before broadcasts. Amy Robertson plans camera positions and walks the team through framing, movement and cueing during rehearsal. Training is tied to your own studio and programme format rather than delivered as a generic course.

How do you deal with echo and noisy rooms?

Duncan Forbes measures the room response first, so treatment is based on readings and not guesswork. He then specifies panels, absorption and positioning for the studio and gallery to keep speech clear on air. We explain what each measure does and where it will sit before anything is fitted.

Will we receive documentation after installation?

Every studio we fit out is handed over with written documentation. Callum Reid prepares signal flow diagrams, equipment lists and fault-finding notes so your own technicians can understand and maintain the system. We go through the documents with your team at handover and answer questions on the day.

Can you support us during live programmes?

We offer live production workflow support, covering rundown planning, rehearsal and agreed fault-finding procedures. For specific broadcasts we can arrange for an engineer to be present, which is scoped and confirmed in writing beforehand. Ask us about your schedule and we will say what is practical.

How do I start a project with you?

Send an enquiry through the contact page describing the studio, the type of programme and what you want to change. We will follow up with questions and, where it suits, a visit to see the space. A written quotation comes next, and nothing starts until you have confirmed it.
