Live television studios, Perth

Studios for live television that keep working on air

We plan, install and support the cameras, sound, lighting and signal systems behind news programmes, interviews and live shows, and we document every job so your crew can run it.

Working from Perth since 2011, for studios across Scotland

Services

What we do in the studio

  • Studio equipment integration

We specify, install and test vision mixers, routers, monitoring and intercom, so the gallery behaves as one system. Callum writes the handover documentation, and your engineers get a clear signal diagram.

  • Camera setup and operation

Camera positions, pedestal and robotic rigs, and a proper briefing for operators. The aim is steady, well-framed live coverage that does not depend on one person remembering how the studio is set up.

  • Acoustic optimisation

We measure studio and gallery rooms, then specify treatment to control echo and background noise. Duncan's measurements decide what goes on the walls, so speech stays clear on air.

  • Lighting design and rigging

Key, fill and background lighting plans using LED fixtures, grids and dimming control. We design for news and interview sets, with attention to skin tones, shadows and how the rig is maintained.

  • Live production workflow support

Rundown planning, rehearsal support and written fault-finding procedures. When something fails during a live programme, your crew has a sequence to follow rather than a guess.

  • Technical audits

A written review of an existing studio: cabling, power, signal paths and risks. You receive a prioritised action list, so you can decide what to fix first and what can wait.

How it works

From first call to first broadcast

Most jobs start with a conversation about what you broadcast and what is going wrong or missing. We then put the plan in writing before any equipment is ordered or any cable is pulled.

  1. Enquiry

You contact us through the form or by phone and describe the studio, the programmes and the problem. Fiona replies to arrange a visit or a call to understand the room and the schedule.

  2. Site visit

We look at the room, the existing equipment, power and cabling, and take acoustic measurements where needed. You tell us who operates the studio day to day.

  3. Written plan

You receive a quotation describing the work, what is included and what could change the cost. Nothing is ordered until you confirm in writing.

  4. Installation and testing

We install, test each signal path and rehearse with your crew. Operators are briefed on the cameras and the gallery before the first live programme.

  5. Handover and support

You receive documentation covering signal flow, settings and fault-finding steps. We remain available by phone if something behaves oddly after the studio goes live.

In detail: technical audits

Technical audits for studios already on air

An audit suits a studio that works but is not fully understood, perhaps after staff changes, years of additions or repeated small faults. We inspect the installation and report on what we find, in plain language, with priorities.

Cabling and patching
We trace cable runs, patch panels and labelling, and note where undocumented changes have crept in. Poor labelling is often the root cause of slow fault-finding during a live show.
Power and earthing
We review how the studio is powered, where equipment shares circuits and whether there is backup for critical items. Hum and noise problems often begin here.
Signal paths
We follow vision, audio and intercom from source to output and check for single points of failure, mismatched formats and monitoring gaps.
Prioritised action list
The written report ranks findings by risk and effort. You can act on the urgent items yourself, or ask us to quote for the work.

Frequently asked questions

These are the questions producers and venue managers ask most before a first conversation. If yours is not here, the contact page is the quickest way to ask.

What kinds of studios do you work with?

We work on studios for news programmes, interviews and live shows, from small single-camera rooms to galleries with several operators. Clients are producers, broadcasters and venue managers in Scotland. If your space is used for live television, we can usually advise, even where the room was not built for it.

Can you work with the equipment we already own?

Yes. Many projects reuse existing cameras, mixers and monitors. We check what you have, say what is still suitable and where replacement makes sense, and design around it. We do not recommend new equipment unless it solves a specific problem you have.

Do you only install, or do you help run live shows?

Both are possible. Installation is one part of our work, and we also offer camera setup and operation, rehearsal support and workflow planning. Some clients ask us only for operator training or a rundown review, and that is fine.

How do I get a price?

Send an enquiry through the contact page. After a call or a visit we send a written quotation describing the work, what it includes and what could change it. The prices page sets out typical costs for each service.

How is payment handled?

Once you confirm the quotation in writing, we invoice you and you pay by bank transfer. Nothing is paid on the website. Cancellations and refunds follow the payment and refund policy, which we are happy to explain before you commit.

How long does a studio project take?

It depends on the scope. An audit or an acoustic survey can be done in days, while a full gallery integration takes longer because of delivery of equipment and testing. The written plan gives a realistic timetable based on your site and your broadcast schedule.

Will our staff be able to operate the studio afterwards?

That is the purpose of the handover. We brief operators, rehearse with them and leave documentation covering signal flow, settings and fault-finding. You should not need us on call to run an ordinary programme.

Do you work outside Perth?

Our office is in Perth, and we work with studios elsewhere in Scotland. Travel is discussed in the quotation, so there are no surprises. If you are further afield, contact us and we will say honestly whether we can help.
